Iconic car of the 90s, one of the most desired by enthusiasts of the German brand BMW. The car was presented to the public at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1990, where it was a great success; at the end of the German show, there were 5,000 orders for this car. From the start of the project to the presentation of the car to the public, BMW spent a good one billion marks The car body, characterised by taut and sharp lines, was dominated by a particularly long bonnet to accommodate the high-split engines, and pop-up headlights with a headlight washer system which, in the standby position, disappeared into the front nose. The side, characterised by ribs that started from the wheel arches and continued towards the tail, featured the characteristic solution without a central pillar, which gave the glass surfaces a lighter and more dynamic appearance. This solution led the designers to study an unprecedented solution for fixing the seat belts which were anchored to a post integrated into the backrest of the front seat. The tail was instead characterised by a truncated design with large horizontally developed rear light clusters.
